Where e-waste comes from in Welkom

Welkom is the centre of the Free State goldfields, where deep-level mines and tailings retreatment plants use control systems, communications equipment, cap lamps and batteries that are replaced regularly. Mining contractors and engineering workshops add motors and electrical panels. The Matjhabeng municipality, schools, a university of technology campus and retail centres retire computers and printers, and farms around Odendaalsrus and Theunissen contribute more. Mines and contractors are the main clients for collections.
